Week of March 14 - 21
Birthdays and Anniversaries at Common Grounds
Common Grounds Coffeehouse invites anyone having a birthday or anniversary during the month of March to come downstairs this morning and enjoy a piece of cake and a FREE cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Happy birthday and anniversary!
Wednesday Night Kids' Silent Auction Today
There's still time to pick up a Lenten folder! Our Mission Board has chosen to donate the funds from the Lenten folders to Campus Crusade. In connection with this project, the Wednesday night kids will be decorating canvas shoes and flip-flops to sell at a silent auction in Friendship Hall this morning after the second service. Join us for the silent auction while enjoying lunch, music, and a good time of fellowship!
Mexico Mission Trip Deadline
If you're interested in participating in the Mexico mission trip July 10-17, please talk to Ben Jewett or Diann Claassen TODAY. We plan to reserve the airline tickets this week.
Lenten Series Continues Tonight
This evening at 6 p.m. Pastor Rupert will continue the five-part series of studies/discussions on the meaning of Easter. There will be a short video, some teaching, much discussion, and light snacks. Please join us!
Who Is This Man? Drama
Mark your calendars and plan to attend Who Is This Man?, an original Easter musical production we're having on Palm Sunday, March 28. There will be two performances: at 2:30 and 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the program. Tickets are available for a donation of your choice.
Will You Help the Mission?
Our church is scheduled to serve a meal at the Toledo Gospel Rescue Mission on Saturday, March 27. Volunteers are needed to provide the food for the meal and/or to help serve the meal at the mission. (The food is dropped off here at the church.) Signup sheets are at the Information Center.
We Need Help!
We'll have a dessert bar after both Palm Sunday drama presentations and a meal for the performers. Signup sheets are at the Information Center.
Jiggs Dinner
Our youth group will be hosting a Jiggs Dinner in Friendship Hall on Saturday, March 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale starting today at a table by the elevator. Ticket price is $7 for adults and $5 for children 5 to 10 years old. There's no charge for children under 5. You may also buy tickets for a to-go dinner. If you have questions, see Ben Jewett or Shelly Kirsch.
Special Guests Today
This morning we welcome People of Worship, a group from Ohio Northern University that Kayla Ballmer is part of. They'll be leading worship at the 10:45 service. We'll be taking a love offering for them, and they'll be our guests at the luncheon following the service.
Adult Growth Group Change
The Adult Growth Group led by Don Connors will not meet this Wednesday, March 17. They'll meet again on Wednesday, March 24, at 6:15 p.m. and start a new study on the book of Haggai. This will be a two-week course, and class notes will be available in class. Everyone is invited to join Don as he continues his studies of the Minor Prophets. Previous class notes are available from Don.
Save the Date!
Our annual outing to a Mudhens game will be on Friday, May 21. Look for tickets to go on sale soon! It's a 7:00 game, and a group from our church will be singing the national anthem!
Attention!
Please be aware that all paper products and supplies that have been in the storeroom are now locked up. These supplies are intended for Wednesday night meals, funerals, and some church-sponsored events. All small groups, Friendship Groups, meetings, and fundraising events must supply their own. Thank you. (from the Hospitality Committee)
Women - Deepen Your Faith!
Women of all ages are welcome to participate in a seven-part study on "Walking by Faith." This class was offered last fall on Wednesday evenings. Now daytime sessions will be held in the church library every other Thursday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. beginning on April 1. Free child care will be available. A short DVD followed by group discussion will help you discover ways to deepen your faith in God. The class will be led by Diann Claassen. You may sign up and pick up a book in the lobby. Call Diann (734-206-2392) if you have any questions. Invite a friend to come with you!
You're Invited!
Falling is the most common reason for hospital admission of the elderly. Join September Fellowship this Saturday, March 20, to learn more about preventing falls. A speaker from Progressive Therapy Alternatives will be with us. We'll have a potluck at 1 p.m. in Friendship Hall. Everyone is welcome! For more information, call Barb Eriksen at 734-847-7663.
Scrap Metal and Jewelry Collection
Dave Lawrence collects metal items here at the church and takes them to the scrap yard. All of the money is donated to Fishers of Men in Mexico. (Please rinse and crush the cans.) He also takes car and lawn mower batteries. The next collection will be next Saturday evening and Sunday morning, March 20 and 21. If you have very large items, such as washers or dryers, call Dave at 419-476-4807 to arrange for pickup. Dave also collect unwanted costume jewelry and uses it to make new items, which he sells. Those profits are also sent to Fishers of Men. There's a basket for the jewelry at the Information Center.
Fishers of Men News
You may have noticed that no Fishers of Men newsletters have been published for some time. Due to time constraints, rather than publishing a full newsletter, the Fishers of Men staff has been posting short blogs frequently to let us know what's going on. We apologize to those of you who don't have a computer. If you do have access to the internet, go to fishersofmenmexico.blogspot.com for pictures and stories that will inspire you. For example, you'll see pictures of gang members praying with Victor during their last Crusade. To receive occasional updates by email, send your email address to
